Because this is a standalone room in your backyard, it naturally raises questions about permits, HOAs, utilities, and how it’s classified. Here are a few common topics we walk through with clients.
Is this considered an ADU or living space?
Prestige Studio Rooms are built to a high standard, but they are designed as non-plumbed accessory spaces. They are not intended for sleeping or full-time living use as an accessory dwelling unit (ADU). Practically, most clients use them as a backyard office shed, creative studio, or insulated backyard studio for hobbies and work.
Do I need a permit?
In many cases, yes — and we handle that process. During our initial conversations and site visit, we’ll look at local requirements, setbacks, and size limits so you know what’s possible on your lot before committing.
What about HOA approval?
If you’re in a neighborhood with an HOA, we can provide basic drawings, exterior specs, and finish options to support your application. The realistic images of each studio shed and office shed configuration can also help your architectural review committee visualize the project.
How is electrical handled?
Studios are typically powered from your home’s main panel. We’ll review distance, load, and routing during the design process and coordinate with a licensed electrician as needed for your outdoor office shed or studio.
Can we adjust window and door placements?
